Dr. Claire providing a chiropractic adjustment

What is a Spinal Adjustment?

A spinal adjustment is a gentle, specific technique Dr. Claire uses to help the spine move the way it is meant to and to support a healthier, more resilient nervous system.

During treatment, Dr. Claire uses targeted, intentional adjustments to release areas of the spine that feel restricted. This helps the joints move freely again, relieves pressure around the nerves, and supports better balance and ease throughout the body.

Adjustments are most often performed on the spine and pelvis, but may also be used on other joints to promote balance, mobility, and comfort. Depending on your needs, Dr. Claire may use her hands or specialized instruments to deliver safe, effective care.

When Should Spinal Adjustments Be Given?

Spinal adjustments are recommended when one or more vertebrae lose their normal position or motion, resulting in restricted movement, irritation, or stress on the nervous system. These changes can result from:

Everyday stress
Poor posture
Repetitive strain
Accidents or injuries

Using non-invasive, targeted assessments, Dr. Claire identifies which areas need correction. Even if you’re not currently in pain, periodic chiropractic checkups can help maintain proper spinal alignment, prevent discomfort, and support long-term wellness — much like regular dental visits help prevent cavities before they become painful.

What Do Spinal Adjustments Do?

By correcting spinal restrictions (often referred to as vertebral subluxations), chiropractic adjustments may help:

  • Reduce pain and inflammation
  • Decrease muscle tension and spasms
  • Improve posture and mobility
  • Relieve pressure on nerves
  • Support the body’s natural healing response
  • Enhance overall wellness and function

Chiropractors are extensively trained to detect and correct these changes safely and effectively. Regular adjustments may help your body move more freely, feel stronger, and function at its best.

Benefits of Regular Chiropractic Adjustments

Ongoing chiropractic care supports more than just pain relief — it supports whole-body wellness. Patients often report:

  • Fewer headaches and migraines
  • Improved posture and spinal alignment
  • Better sleep and increased energy
  • Reduced stress and muscle tension
  • Enhanced flexibility and movement
  • Improved nervous system communication

Over time, regular adjustments may help your body become more resilient, improving recovery and your capacity to handle daily stress.

Conditions Chiropractic Adjustments Can Help With

Chiropractic adjustments can help manage and relieve many musculoskeletal and nervous system–related issues, including:

Back and neck pain
Sciatica and nerve irritation
Headaches and migraines
Shoulder or hip discomfort
Whiplash and motor vehicle injuries
Joint stiffness or reduced mobility
Sports or repetitive strain injuries
Poor posture and muscular imbalance

Dr. Claire tailors each treatment plan to your individual needs — addressing both your symptoms and the underlying contributors.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

Yes. Chiropractic adjustments are very safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor like Dr. Claire. Each adjustment is tailored to your condition, age, and comfort level.

Will I hear a popping sound during my adjustment?

Sometimes. The popping or cracking sound is simply gas being released from the joint space. It’s a normal and harmless occurrence and doesn’t mean the adjustment was “stronger” or “better.”

Do adjustments hurt?

Most patients feel relief during or shortly after their adjustment. Some may experience mild soreness — similar to how you might feel after starting a new exercise — which typically resolves within a day.

How soon will I notice results?

Many people feel a difference after their first few sessions. Chronic or long-standing conditions may take more time as your body adapts, heals, and builds new patterns of movement and stability.
